Fall break




My kids are on fall break. For some reason, this is the signal for my body to break down and get sick. I have so many fond memories of lying on the couch, miserable, while my kids were on fall break. Seasonal allergies wait all year, then bombard me right about now. 

As soon as fall break is over, and they’re back in school and I’m back to work, I’ll be well. I guess I’m allergic to having my kids on an extended break from school.

My oldest spent the night with a friend, so Nolan and I were on our own.  I prefer to lie on the couch and moan when I feel like this, but Nolan didn’t approve of that plan.  So, we did a little pumpkin carving.

I know it’s hard to tell in the bright sun, but that’s a pretty fine looking skull and crossbones. We’ve been carving pumpkins using those store bought kits for years. This time Nolan did it all himself. I sat and moaned supervised, but he is the pumpkin carving master.

After the pumpkin carving, I got a call that Nolan had won something, and we could come and pick it up.  My first thought was, woohoo a flat screen TV! But that wasn’t it.  He was just as happy with what he won, though.

 

In case you’re thinking this is an ordinary Sugar Daddy, let me show you the real reason why my son was soooo happy with his prize.

That’s right, it was super mega size Sugar Daddy. A full pound of artery hardening, tooth decaying goodness. You would have thought he won the lottery, he was that happy.  He was a little concerned that there might not be enough to share with his brother – seriously.  This is one candy loving boy.

So even though I was a sick, whiny baby, we had a good day.  And eventually my medication will kick in and I’ll be back to normal. Or I could just eat some of that monster size candy bar, and collapse in a sugar coma.  Decisions, decisions.

        I vote for going the Sugar Daddy route – at least it might be a little more enjoyable along the way! :)

        P.S. What in the world is Fall Break?? Doesn’t feel like they just STARTED school? Why a break from it already? I’ve never heard of that before. Then again, the schools here in my area give in essence TWO Spring Breaks (one around the normal time and one in mid-February…instead of just Presidents’ DAY off from school, they get that entire week off!). I think it’s insane – but I make myself sound OLD OLD OLD when I say “Well, we never had it like that when I was a kid!” :)

        It does seem like they just started school, way too soon for a 3 day break. I’m the same way, I’ll start to feel old if I keep telling them about “when I was in school” lol. But I do think they get alot more breaks than I did. I just wish their break didn’t seem to coincide with my seasonal illness!

        Sounds like an exhausting day for someone that’s not feeling well, but time very well spent with your son! And I agree… awesome skull/crossbones design, very impressive.

        I am old! We never had fall or even spring breaks! lol

        Nolan did awesome with the pumpkin! Congrats to him on the win – I never even knew they made them that big, holy smokes! Sugar coma, here he comes! LOL

        Oh that’s funny. He was worried about sharing. But between us girls; how could he logistically do so anyway?
        I know what you mean about the couch thing. It’s where I end up when I’m sick. It’s a central location so I can keep any eye on everyone and continue to bark out orders!

        I’ve always wanted to make a cool carved pumpkin like that! Mine always turn out just like my kids, maybe even more childish.

        Maybe I am showing my age, but remember when pumpkins were all carved pretty much the same, with triangles for eyes and big square teeth, lol. That’s how mine would look if I did it.
