My husband and sons just drove off for a weekend Scout camp out. I’d be doing a happy dance, but just getting them out the door is hard work. In case you haven’t met my son, let me tell you something about him. He never does anything willingly. He mopes and groans and gripes about everything, like this camp out. But he’ll come home Sunday all smiles, telling me what a great time he had. He does this all the time, for pretty much every activity. We’re used to him, but we also get annoyed with the requisite moping. So we ignore him. And I told my husband to try to have the patience of a saint on the drive to the campsite.
So I have 2 days to myself. Just me and the dog, and all he wants to do is sleep. I have to work, but I don’t mind working when I’m home alone. No distractions, no feeling guilty for working while the kids are home.
But, if I didn’t have to work, what would I do? Hmm, that’s like asking yourself, what would you do if you won the lottery. You know it won’t happen, but it’s so fun to dream. If my family was gone and I didn’t have to work, I would spend the first night chilling out. I’d rent a movie, get some yummy snacks and curl up with a blanket. Then I’d sleep in, til at least 9 – if you have kids you know that sleeping til 9 is a luxury that doesn’t happen too often.
For my 2nd dream day without the family, I would take some time for me. Get my hair done, read a book, nap, whatever I wanted. Then that evening I’d grab a friend or two, and get dinner or movie, or both. I don’t know about you, but for me, a weekend like that would be like winning the lottery.
Just thinking about such a nice weekend has inspired me. Leave me a comment telling me what you’d do if your family left you alone for 2 days. Dream big, and give me details, what movie would you see, what book would you read, what spa treatment would you indulge in. I want to live vicariously through you!
Now for the giveaway part. I’m giving away a $50 Visa gift card to one lucky commenter.

I would turn up the music I LIKE as loud as I wanted all day. I would get Chinese take out for dinner one night and Qdoba take out the next night – yummy! I would watch Moulin Rouge and Chicago and turn up the surround sound as loud as I want! I would enjoy not having to tell anyone to pick up this, or please do this, etc. Ahhhhh

I’d have the “girls” over for a chick flick, a bottle of wine and a LOT of fun. I never get to do that.
Greta Blau on November 14th, 2008 8:50 pm
Ah – I would sleep in a little bit…maybe 10 AM. Walk down the street to the coffee shop, get a bagel with cream cheese and tomato (that I didn’t have to share with anyone!) and I would sit and read the paper that they have there on the counter, taking my time, knowing that I didn’t have to be back home for anything.
I would go to the library and browse for hours and take out as many books as I am allowed to.
I might go to an outdoor cafe and have another cup of coffee and read one of the books from the library.
I think I would really miss my husband and son at this point…ha ha. Maybe I would go home and get some pay per view…a movie I know my husband wouldn’t be into seeing.
Might drag someone out to get a pedicure. Sit and read Vanity Fair in one sitting because there would be no interruptions.
Sigh. A girl can dream.

I would read a book for grown ups – not a kid’s book or a parenting magazine. I’d go out to lunch – a non-kid friendly place. I’d go out to dinner with friends. Oh boy, where do I sign up for one of those kinds of days?
Thanks for the chance to win!

I’d probably sleep in, garden all day, have crepes for dinner, take a luxurious bubble bath, stay up late doing artwork, and start all over again the next day….

Strangely, I would clean the house first, so I could enjoy the clean for 2 whole days! Then and in addition to playing music I like, and watching movies I like I would have some friends over for a food/music/movie fest. Then i would SLEEP IN. Get a massage and go wandering around some stores I never get enough time in because someone is whining that we’ve been there forever. Thai take out would finalize the weekend, no clean up.
I already subscribe….do I get another chance too? Please?

I’d go to the mall by myself, play around on the computer, get take out whenever I got hungry, watch a chick flick movie with my own big bowl of popcorn and then late at night curl up in bed with a good book. And on Sun I would spend all morning with the newspaper, a muffin and a grande Starbucks!

If we had a whole non-busy weekend to spend together, we would go to the local petting zoo/animal park and see all the animals. Then we might go hiking and have a picnic lunch.

Ok…I would totally sleep in the first morning then lay in bed with remote in hand until at least noon. Stop for some Starbucks Iced Chai on my way to my fave mani/pedi place. Grab some Noodles & Co, come home, snuggle with a nice, warm blanket and book. No interruptions. Watch a funny chick flick and drink lots of wine.
Next morning, wake up, grab the Sunday paper and head out for some hot cocoa. Read in peace. No little one tugging at my leg. Bliss.

I’d not make the bed-in fact I would probably spend the whole time just lazing around, catching up on my reading.I’d definitely have a bag of Lindors dark chocolate truffles near by.
I’d order out for dinner and buy something totally unnecessary, but wonderful from one of the home shopping channels.

I know it sounds weird and at one time in my life I wanted to get in a car and drive as far away from my family as I could (when the boys were growing up) but now I would be lost without my family. My family are my friends and since my boys have grown up I tend to spend all of my extra time with my husband. I think we go everywhere together. I can’t even think what I would do by myself. Besides, it’s more fun to go things with other people. I’m alone, working by myself at home all day so I have the opposite problem
Oh, I have to say..eww…ewww…pick me…pick me..

I’m getting giddy just THINKING about having the house to myself for two whole days. I know this probably sounds crazy, but I would CLEAN!! My house is beyond help at the moment because its a small house, and whenever I try to clean, I am inevitably in someone’s way. So I just don’t. Don’t clean. But I WOULD if everyone would get outta my way for a couple days. Then, of course I would reward my efforts with a Felicity marathon for half the night, and sleep till noon the next day. Think if I win the gift card, I could bribe my hubby with it and make him take the kids camping?

I would probably sit paralyzed for like the first two hours wondering what I should do because my brain would be riddling with all of the glorious possibilities…but when I FINALLY figured it out I would..

2) Strum some guitar
3) Take some pictures
4) Surf too many blogs

I may go shopping if he’s left his credit card in the drawer…I do NOT like to shop with him; too many questions. I’d probably end up buying everything for my son though…

Oh, this is silly. I am never alone.
My actions are always monitored by someone..

I’m drooling at the thought because while I occasionally get away with my girlfriends, I NEVER get to spend a weekend home alone!
I would:
spend all day Saturday in my jammies reading, writing, and then watching a movie.
Plus I’d probably call my husband a few times.
Then Sunday I’d shower and meet a friend for lunch. Oh wait, they would all have to be with their families. Too bad, I’d pick up some food and then read, write, sleep and watch another movie. Maybe soak in a bath .
Oh this is getting to good. I need to stop before I get depressed.

Oh boy. First off, I would SLEEP IN! Something I haven’t done in MONTHS, no make that YEARS! I would take a LONG bath. Watch a couple movies, I’m not sure what, but something my husband wouldn’t want to watch, you know, chick flicks! I would go out to eat with some of my girl friends. And probably do some uninterrupted scrapbooking!

I would hope that when you say alone, that he takes the dogs too! LOL! Then I could get more done then. Sing out loud! Dance!
My adult kids just both moved out recently, and I am adjusting to their not fighting, food being ate faster than I can get it out of the grocery bags, no hot water, and doing their chores and paying their bills. But I still miss them, and it will take time. I can’t see hubby leaving me alone though, he spends a lot of time on his world of warcraft game in the next room. LOL!

Oh, this sounds just dreamy…(not that I don’t love them, but time alone is rare!). First I would go to Barnes and Nobles for about 4 hours, reading and drinking coffee. I would go shopping at Kohls and Target. I would take a long bath, watch a chick flick, stay up way too late and sleep in way too long in the morning. And I would eat chips and salsa to my hearts content.
Gretchen on November 16th, 2008 1:13 am
First I would clean. Sick, yes, but I can’t relax until the house is clean….THEN I’d be able to do things like dance around the kitchen with my music up loud, lay on my big, red, comfy couch and read, and write some of those notes I’ve been meaning to send for the last 6 months!

I’d sleep in a bit – say 10am. I never get to do this as my three year old is an early riser. Brunch at the local diner. Nothing too fancy, just good comfort food. Then I’d probably drag one of my girlfriends out for some one on one time we’ve been missing. Browsing a good bookstore for an unlimited amount of time. Pampering/pedicure at the local spa. Afternoon and evening watching a movie or two that I can never squeeze in with the little guy in eyeshot…

First of all I would catch up on all the cleaning. I mean real cleaning that I can’t get to every day. I’d take a super long shower (which I don’t get to have these days). I’d give myself a manicure, pedicure and maybe even paint my nails. Then I’d head on down to the casino! where miraculously I wouldn’t be the designated driver and I could have a few drinks for the first time in ages. Then I’d come home with my winnings (lol), lay in bed until at least noon the next day and do absolutely nothing from then on out except sit on the couch and watch tv.

Then I would head to a nice shopping center and go into all the stores that I can’t with my kids because I’m afraid they’ll break something or get into everything! I’d stop and look at the things I wanted, get some lunch and not worry about getting home at any set time. I might get my hair cut and get a pedicure and meet some girlfriends for dinner. I’d wrap up the night with a relaxing bubble bath – music, candles, wine – and curl up in my comfy P.J.’s and read a great book until I peacefully fell asleep! Perfect!

Oh I would clean – deep clean the house with out my family home for lots of reasons but teh main two are it wouldn’t take me as much time with no disruptions and when I clean out closets and toy boxes no one would try to reclaim and hide items that I might be purging.
Kaci @ My Three Sons on November 16th, 2008 5:05 pm
If I didn’t have my children for two whole days the first thing I would do is take the time to clean my house. No distractions or a two year old making another mess as I’m cleaning up one.
Next, I would go to the mall and buy myself something. Maybe a new purse, new shoes, or just some bubble bath.
Then I would have to go out and grab a manicure and pedicure.
Then to the store to rent a sabby love story and home with a pint of ice cream and watch the movie.
The next day I would sleep in and then probably have to do some serious excercising to work off all the ice cream I ate.
That would be a perfect two days to myself.

OH! You are a girl after my own heart! What would I give for a weekend like that. I know I have those days in the future since I have four boys and I know my hubby will always want to go with them. There are quite a few years to go before that day. (my boys are 8,4 and twin 18 month olds) Here’s what I would do: Take a long luxurious bath with candles, bubbles, the works. I would actually take the time to do a mask, exfoliate, pedicure, manicure, primp, etc. Then I would curl up on the couch with a good book and just read and rest. Next day I would have some friends over for a game and movie night. We would just be silly and laugh and watch movies like Strictly Ballroom and Just like Heaven. I would also love to just sit down and read the scriptures and actually take the time to search, ponder and pray. Someday……..
Natalie Willis on November 16th, 2008 6:28 pm

Ohhhhhhhhhh, let’s see. Start with an evening with some girlfriends with some wine and food and chic flicks. Saturday, sleep late. Read a good book cover to cover with a warm mocha by my side and my cozy blankie and a fire in the fire place. Sunday go shopping by myself and maybe lunch with a friend.
Yea. That. OR, get all the cleaning done that I have been neglecting. Try to get caught up on laundry. And talk to myself cause my house would be too quiet after a few hours!

Then the next would be spent cooking and cleaning… I know it sounds like it isn’t worthy of a full day & I am sure many are thinking I am nuts but I never get to clean without interruption so the house never gets fully clean and I love to cook and I never get to do it the way I want to because all meals need to be cooked as quickly as possible so that I can tend to the animals (ok, children & husband).

Wow. A weekend to myself.
Let’s see…
I’d kiss them all sweetly goodbye, watch them drive out the driveway, close the door, then do a HUGE happy dance!
I’d crank up the music – probably a cd mix I’d put together earlier in the week.
I’d make some great Italian dish and invite some friends over to watch a chick flick..
I’d sleep in on Saturday morning, then grab a good book, a beach chair , some diet coke with lime and head to the beach. I’d sit there till about dinner time.. stop by a local seafood place and pick up something for dinner.
Come home, sit in a hot bath, read what was left of my book then go to sleep..
I’d wake up Sunday morning.. drink a big cup of coffee on my porch and read the paper. I’d get ready for church, go to church, then come home and get a big pot of soup going for my family…
I’d love having all that time to myself.. but I’d love to see them come home too
Love your blog! I’ll be adding you to my Google Reader as soon as I hit Submit..!

I would probably sleep late, clean house, and bake. Just about the same I do now, but I could take all day, listen to my music while doing so, not have to clean one room 5 times, and wash dishes 8 times. I wouldnt have to listen to kids fighting over toys, or complaining they are bored.
Audra on November 17th, 2008 3:55 pm
I’d spend the weekend getting caught up on my scrapbooks! (after sleeping in until 8ish)

WOW wouldn’t this be nice. I would first off sleep in, take a bath, make myself an awesome breakfast and then catch up on my projects I have left behind. Sewing, crochet, reading, etc. Then take a long uninterupted nap! Ahhh, makes me want to take the day off of work! haha
Thank you!

I’d clean up all the stupid stuff that bugs me (dishes, laundry, clutter) and then luxuriate in a house that wouldn’t get messed up again! I’d read in the bathtub and sleep late and eat junk food without setting a bad example.
amy on November 17th, 2008 4:20 pm
Id probally worry about my kids…catch up on my cleaning and such…and visit friends and catch up with them…

Sleep late, read the stack of books that I never seem to have time for, watch movies that I want to watch, eat junk food while the kids aren’t looking, and just be lazy.
Thanks for the chance to win!

A weekend by jyself!!! How wonderful!! I would spend it in control of the TV. I would be able to watch all my programs my husband thinks are stupid!!!
Andria on November 17th, 2008 6:05 pm
I would sleep in, take a “hot” shower alone, pick up a chai latte and drink the whole thing before it got cold….shall I go on. Thanks for the chance!
Jackie B. on November 17th, 2008 6:18 pm
I would spend the time all alone. I would not do anything special–play around on the computer, read, sleep in, drink coffee, order takeout, watch a chick flick, etc. I love being at home by myself. My house is my sanctuary!

I would take a long soak in the tub, wear my jammies and robe all day, turn on the fireplace and some soothing music, and read a book! Oh, and can’t forget some chocolate!
Rhonda Martin on November 17th, 2008 7:31 pm
What a nice thought this is~! lol First I would sleep until 10am and not get dressed until NooN for sure then off to have my hair done then visit some long lost friends I haven’t seen in how long. I start the next day the same way then shopping I would go. What an ideal weekend to myself. Just the thought of it was worth entering lol Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
I would sleep late and probably stay in my pj’s all day. I would eat only snack food and not wash a dish. I would stay up late and do the whole thing over the next day.
Thanks!

I would sit on my sofa, without the tv ever being turned on, listening to music and enjoying a glass of wine. I would also sleep as much as possible, workout at a time of the day that I chose, not that is dictated by hectic schedules, and hope that hubbs and Little B. get home soon because I don’t know what I would do without them.

My Weekend would definitely be a “going out with the girls” weekend!!
Its been ages since i went out with my friends and my dream weekend would start out going to the mall and picking out a cute new outfit. When i try it on, my friend will say its perfect and off we go to a night of dancing and drinks. After the cab ride home we would end up at my house for snacks and secrets just like when we were young:)

Honestly…I would start my day out with a killer workout, and then I would head to the spa for a full day of massage, facial, mani/pedi, the works! Thanks for the opportunity!
Sarah at themommylogues on November 18th, 2008 10:00 am
Ok, I’d spend the first half day getting some things done around here that I can’t get done with all the chaos. And it would be so much faster without kids, that it would only take half a day, and then I’d veg. Watch movies. Find a marathon of something on. Snack. Read books. Get take out.
It’s so beautiful I could cry.
Paige on November 18th, 2008 10:23 am
Sadly, I would start by cleaning the house. Then I would maybe go shopping, or go out to lunch. Then I would watch WHATEVER I want on tv, and go to bed at 8:00 if I felt like it.
