When my kids were little we got their pictures taken every year at Christmas. Now that they’re older, I try to get a good picture of them sometime throughout the year to send with Christmas cards. But this year, because my 13 year old is on a picture strike, I have very few pictures of them together. This makes me sad.
Today school was closed because of icy roads, and I finally had my chance to get some pictures of them together. It took several hours of pleading, but finally they agreed. They did not agree to dress up or anything like that, just a simple picture. Unfortunately, for my boys, simple picture is an oxymoron.
First, a disclaimer. I am no photographer, and I especially am not good at photographing people. But these two were so busy being clowns that even a professional wouldn’t have gotten a good shot. Let me demonstrate.

They fight and bicker constantly, but put them in front of a camera and they can’t stop giggling.
Then the goofiness really kicked in:

And more goofy:

I still don’t have any good pictures of them together, but I’ve captured the true essence of their spirits. Goofy, giggly boys. I love those guys. But I would really like a good picture.

But you DO have good photos.
I think it’s the ones like yours above that are so very interesting and fun to receive in the mail. They’ve got personality!

Thank you Melisa. They do have personality, that’s for sure. Just not quite the look I was going for, lol.

I think the top one is great! You should use that! I love pictures that are too posed for and are fun. It shows the real side of your kids!!

I do like unposed, buy they kind of got out of control with the giggling, and my youngest went a little nuts with his posing, lol. We’re working on it.

hahahahahaha are you sure your boys aren’t related to MY boys?! surely they much be distant cousins at VERY least! I have to agree with everyone else about the personality and it being better than posed
you should do a collage/digiscrapbook style page with all the goofball pics and use that as your card (if you are sending them out or emailing them)
Thanks for making me see that my kids are totally “normal”

Now having said that, I was close to the point of cussing whilst trying to get a family photo of us this year (yes US, all 5 of us…me hub 13 1/2 yr old boy 10 yr old boy and 4 yr old girl……um all while using a timer on my camera…uh hem…yeah shoulda saw the frustration coming a mile away!) Finally I said, everyone do what you want in the pic, do whatever you feel like doing, but this WILL be our family Christmas pic no matter what!” and it is our family Christmas pic hahahahaha I am not a professional either, but if a pro were around, my family would not act like MY family so I guess I am sorta glad for the candids

if you scroll to about 1/2 way through that post you will see why your younger son has me sighing a knowing sigh (my middle’un does the SAME exact thing
Hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas and are doubly blessed for all the blessings you so generously dole out throughout the year!!!!

Fantacy, your kids are so cute! I love the picture of all 3 of them at the pumpkin patch. At least yours look like they can sit next to each other for more than 3 seconds without cracking up,which is what mine do.

I wish I could locate an amusing holiday photo, somewhere in old albums, to create a funny homemade Christmas card…you know, like the Hallmark ones, where they take a funny old photo and put a hilarious caption on it. My mom always dragged my sister and me to studios for “portraits,” each year, dressed in over-starched Sunday finery and grumpy faces. Soooo boring!
