Linda, my senior class went to Washington DC, too. For a group of kids from such a tiny midwestern town, it was the trip of a lifetime. My sons school actually does a trip to NYC and DC for the 7th and 8th graders. Back when I went we raised the money to go as a class, but now the parents pay so we couldn't send him. I kind of think they might appreciate it more when they're a little older, though.

When I was in the 8th grade we got to go as a class to Raleigh, NC which is our state Capitol. I had never been away from home and had never spent the night in a hotel so it was an interesting trip all the way around. On our way home we stopped at the state zoo in Asheboro NC for a few hours. What we didn't realize is that we were there during 'Zebra season' so you can imagine the reaction of our teachers and chaperons when we came to the Zebra exhibit and there were Zebra's 'mating in the wild'. We all left the Zoo's giftshop with 'Zebra Zone' bumper stickers.
My senior year in high school I was part of a large group that got to go to Washington DC. Another fun, interesting, and memory filled field trip.
