Trying to give back

I’m not sure if writing about asking for help made me feel better or just exposed. Definitely exposed, but hopefully the better will come.

I didn’t sleep last night, working and worrying. But I did come up with a way that I can try to give back, and I know that will make me feel better.

I love having giveaways, and I used to have them regularly on this blog. I’m not blessed with sponsors, so giveaway prizes came out of my pocket. Which is why there haven’t been any in quite awhile. But I do having something to give.

Months ago I won some gift cards and held onto them until I had enough to buy myself a nicer camera. A lovely Nikon D40 camera and lens kit. I really wanted that camera, and I would have loved to actually learn how to use it properly and take awesome pictures.

I got the camera last November, and I think I let myself get it because I wanted so badly to believe that everything was fine, so why not use my gift cards for such a luxury item. Deep down I probably knew everything was not fine, but I guess I needed that delusion. Anyway, I have hardly used that camera. I think I have taken maybe 60 pictures since I got it. No time to learn how to use it, and with everything going on, I haven’t been inclined to take pictures. So the camera is practically brand new, works great, and would love a new home. I’ve got a nice bag for it too, which will stay with the camera of course.

Who wants a nice new-to-you Nikon!? Better yet, who doesn’t? This giveaway is going to be a little different than others that I have had on this blog though.

This is how this particular giveaway is different. If you donate at least $5, you will get an additional 5 entries. And so on, if you donate $10, you will get an additional 10 entries. If you donate, please leave your Paypal confirmation number in the comments or email it to me if you prefer, unexpectedblissblog@gmail.com

Open to US addresses only. Please make sure you leave a valid email address with each entry. The camera is ready to ship as soon as the giveaway is over, I’ll just need to be able to reach the winner by email to get shipping information. The giveaway will end at midnight on Sunday April 4. Due to technical difficulties, the blog was down for awhile, so the giveaway deadline is extended until Tuesday, April 6 at midnight. Sorry for the downtime! This is me trying to give while asking for help from strangers. As I said before, I have no skills to offer, so this is the best I could come up with. I forgot to mention this in my post yesterday, but prayers and good thoughts are also much needed and greatly appreciated. Always.

Sheri, I’m so sorry that things are rough for you right now. The only advice I can give is what I do when I’m struggling with fear, worry and anxiety. I deal with one day at a time, focus on the things that I can do and just keep reminding myself of all the good things I do have in my life. And pray. Many times, I just have to hand it over to God and trust that he’ll take care of me. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that things get better for you soon.

I know that life is really rough at times but you have to remember that God works in mysterious ways and that everything happens for a reason. I know that those words can seem really generic at times when all hope seems lost but you have to remember to breathe and as hard as it is to stay positive you must tell yourself that “This too shall pass”. I think it’s time to leave your burdens at the cross…at the feet of Jesus. I believe you will be immediately relieved of the burden. Also, I know it’s hard to tithe when it seems impossible to make ends meet, but God commands us to give him the 1st tenth. If you aren’t already tithing, I encourage you to do so.

I don’t want to sound like I’m lecturing, but I wanted this to come from my heart since yours is so open and raw right now. From a Christian who tithes without fail and who has been rewarded with so many blessings, please read this scripture as God tells us to test him:

Malachi 3: 8-10, “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse — the whole nation of you — because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

That is a strong message and it is so amazing that God actually tells us to test him. Test God!? Wow!

I’m saying a prayer for you now that you may find financial peace (check out Dave Ramsey’s website, too), emotional and spiritual peace.

Yep, I understand you’re overwhelmed and need a moment to yourself. I used my lifeline to bring in mom or mother-in-law weekly. Their rescues did magic for restoring energy. It was an accomplishment to clear the top of the dining room buffet(repurposed as a dresser for the twins.) People would call and ask if I was busy or seen the sales. It still makes me smile.

I am not and never will be a mom, but I do know what it’s like to go back to school while maintaining a busy life. I also remember the hopelessness I felt when I was in school the first time. The reason I wasn’t doing well then was not that I was too busy–I wasn’t busy enough. I was failing classes and I didn’t care. I couldn’t find a reason to. I eventually gave up, because I couldn’t pay my bills anymore. Three years later, God gave me courage to go back to that same school and give it another try. It wasn’t easy, and my life was way busier than it was before–I now had a full-time job, and multiple other responsibilities. But I was a different person, because God is always making me new. His word is changing me every day. I pray that you are encouraged to keep going, and that you would trust in the one who endured the ultimate loneliness and pain…

Wow. I just read your post from 4/1 and have to say that you are a brave person to share what you are going through. There is so much that I don’t share because I don’t want to be judged, but let me just tell you that you are NOT alone.

Even when it seems hopeless, God tells us in Luke 12 – Who of you by worrying can add even a single hour to your life (or a single inch to your stature)? If you cannot do this very little thing, then why worry about the rest?

When you are in the depths of despair, it is very hard to hold onto God’s word and NOT worry. I worry and fear. I dwell on it. But that is Satan’s grip and he wants me to believe the lies that it is hopeless and we will never get out of the cesspool of debt that we’re in. But no matter what our debt is, it’s here – not in heaven. It doesn’t take away God’s love – and my sin debt is PAID IN FULL. So is yours if Jesus is your savior. I know I’ve pushed him away before – especially when I am scared. But it’s because I believe Satan’s lies. Don’t believe him! Turn your face back to God and ask Him to cast out that fear and release you from this oppression!

Oh, wow…can’t tell you what a blessing it would be to win something so lovely. I too am in a long winter season and it is so, so hard to hold tight to faith and the promise of better things to come.

I feel sorry for ya, but at the same time it’s part of life.
A month ago I landed in the ER and was admitted to the hospital for a few days. I have something that they haven’t seen in someone as young as I before. My medical bills are outrageous! Surgery,xrays, CAT scans, ECHO, pages n pages of blood work, doctor after doctor visits and to make it even better they don’t know what caused it nor if it will come back (which it did). So I have to go for another opinion at a much bigger hospital. I was laid off almost a year ago and can’t find work. At times I’m stressed beyond belief but I continue to walk and realize that I will get through this.
I really hope that you get through what you have going on, just realize its part of life’s ups and downs though.

This is the first blog entry i have read but i really loved it and you are in my thoughts and prayers. keep your chin up and don’t give into the darkness. Psalm 107:13-14 says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. HE brought them out of the darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.”
Be patient and He will deliver you.

Sometimes I look toward myself for answers, forgetting that I don’t have the answers — He does.

We were able to go to the beach to visit family before Christmas. Came home & all my photos were bad. My camera broke & I didn’t know it. Would I love to have the D40, very much so. My kids are home schooled (5 girls plus we had an additional girl with us), so the photos were to document their education — oops!

More than wanting the camera, I look for God to lead you to where He needs you to be. To give you that peace, stillness & knowing He is guiding you on that journey.

I am so sorry you are having a rough go, we are starting to see the light at the end of our tunnel. We just closed on our house in Texas last week, it’s been on the market for 2 years and we have been living with my parents. Meanwhile my husband travels 20 days a month, we now have 2 children, one with major health problems. We are praying for results of biopsies to come tomorrow. I will keep you in my prayers and repost this to my twitter (which also posts to facebook).
I will also donate $5, I know it’s not much but it’s what we can do. Keep looking up He is there.
