My family and I always have soup and sandwiches before going to church on Christmas Eve.

In our family, all the girls decorate holiday cookies and then we have the boys judge them in various categories (most creative, most edible, The Spirit of Christmas award, etc.) It is pretty funny. Thanks!

It’s silly, but we all put on Santa hats to decorate our tree. The first few ornaments all have to be placed on the tree in a special order (bride and groom, our family, and then one for each of the kids).

My husband and I do this to the “kids” Even though they are in their 20’s, they still like to shake their packages. We started a few years back, where we don’t put names on the presents, but numbers. My husband has the list in a “safe place” Number and name, that way no one knows who’s who. When Christmas morning comes, my husband and I pass out the gifts by number. Fun for us. and different.

On Christmas eve we give our kid(s) pajamas and then let them open one present – of their choice. It’s something small since the big gifts alqays come from Santa – but it doesn’t matter to them!

Our youngest hands out the presents, each person having a turn to open.

Well, I am hopeless in the kitchen (which is why I need to win this prize!), so my mother and sister spend a lot of the holidays making me treats that I am too “cooking challenged” to make — decorated sugar cookies (usually with garish blue icing!), Mexican wedding cakes, turtle candy, etc. Mmmm, works for me!

My kids get to open one package that I pick on Christmas Eve which is always their new PJ’s. They are wrapped but not in a box, and the kids think they are smart because they “guess” what is in it. :)

Each year we find a needy family to help financially. This way my daughters see that Christmas is about giving, not just getting.

Our family plays the “Mrs Wright” game every year. Everyone buys a gag gift and wraps it up before Christmas. On Christmas day, we all sit in a circle and my dad reads the “Mrs Wright” story. The gifts are passed left to right depending on each utterance of “left” or “right” in the story. It’s always fun to see what present you end up with, my family is pretty creative.

A family tradition is that we all go home to my parent’s house to decorate the tree while listening to Christmas music. Then we all open our stockings on Christmas morning together, too.

      Thanks so much!!

Our tree is topped not by a star or angel, but a Baby Jesus ornament. Apparently when my husband was a very little boy, he’d asked his parents why Baby Jesus wasn’t on top of the tree since he was the most important part of Christmas. And he has been ever since.

My favorite holiday tradition is stockings at the foot of the bed. Santa always managed to sneak in our bedrooms at night and put our stockings at the foot of our bed so that when we got up at dark thirty and couldn’t go back to sleep, we would have something to do until the sun was up and mom and dad were up. :) The tradition continues now, but my mom has taken over for Santa, and it only happens when the whole family is home for the holidays.

My kids are still very young, so we don’t have a lot of traditions yet. We’ve decided to get a new ornament for each child every year, so that they have a collection of ornaments to take with them years from now when they are on their own.

Our fun tradition is that we have a big birthday party before we are allowed to do anything Christmas related on Christmas eve. we have so many December and Christmas birthdays its the only way to make them feel special. no x-mas wrap, no joint gifts, just some good old fashioned gifts and cake!

Our fun holiday tradition is that we always have to have pigs in a blanket on Christmas Eve. Even though my children are now grown and gone, they have to come to my house on Christmas Eve and have Pigs in a Blanket, along with other treats of course, but the Pigs have to be present or there’s whining.

We have a few holiday traditions.

We add a jingle bell to our stocking each year. So, my dh and I have been together for 8 years now, and there are 8 bells on our stockings. I love sewing them on. We have started this for my extended family if they don’t object to bells on their stockings!

We also make a lasagna dinner on Christmas eve and then a Birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas afternoon!
