The last good book I read was actually a kids book the other night. The kids and I read The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein (an old favorite of mine) and there was a point where all the kids were laughing hysterically. That made it an extra great book!
Jamie on January 26th, 2009 8:31 am
Well, it’s not just one book, but a series, and I’m helplessly addicted, Twilight, the whole series. I just can’t find anything as exciting to read since and I read them all last summer, so I just keep reading them over and over in between not so great books. I think Eclipse the third one is my favorite.

This is going to sound silly and immature, but I actually really liked Holes (the one the movie was based on, I guess?). I picked up my younger brother’s copy over Christmas and I liked the way it fit together. It was a good, non-stressful, fun, fast read.

I just read and thoroughly enjoyed “The Lions of Al-Rassan” by Guy Gavriel Kay. Its categorized as “fantasy” at most bookstores, but its largely a work of brilliant historical fiction. Hope you enjoy…and hope I win the gift card.

Also reading How the Dead Live, a collection of short stories by Alvin Greenberg. They’re interesting.

One of my Christmas gifts was Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz. It was pretty good.. but really weird when I went to the circus right after finishing it. (If you haven’t read it, there are some main points in the story that involve a clown, the son of a clown and an arialist (sp?). I almost kept wondering if clowns and arialists are complete opposites in the pyramid of circuses lol. (That’s how I know I really get into a story.. I think about it even when I’m not reading it lol)

I recently read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and LOVED it! I was already aware of the general story…having read abridged versions as a kid and having seen a film version…but I was really in for a treat when I actually read the whole 400+ pages! Barnes and Noble puts out a great edition for only $7 in their classics collection…look for a blue paperback. I wasn’t aware but it is actually two separate works–Alcott put out the second half after receiving such great reviews on the first. Anyway, I’d recommend it to anyone…what a wonderful story of family, love, humor, and just all around goodness!

The book that I just finished was awesome. Just what I needed: Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich. In fact, there were times that I almost wet my pants I was laughing so hard. No, really. I can’t read her books in bed as I wake up hubby. I have to hide down in the family room and I still have to have a pillow handy to muffle the laughing. For yucky January and February, you can’t go wrong with Janet!
Cheers, Kiy

I see you’ve got hundreds of recommendations for the Twilight series, which I’m going to echo – my husband just told me tonight that since Thanksgiving, 1 out of every 5 books has been by Stephenie Meyer. I haven’t read The Host, but LOVE the Twilight series.
I also recently re-read an old favorite, The Prodigal Daughter by Jeffery Archer. He’s a fabulous storyteller, and although some of the predictions in the book seem absurd at this point, it’s still an excellent story. (I think it was written in the 80’s, so there are some bizarre predictions about what will happen in the late 80’s/90’s politics.)

HA! I read so many books! (As a natural speed-reader and bibliophile, I am incredibly lucky that my BFF is a librarian. I don’t even make requests, she just brings over stacks of books she thinks I might like!)It’s genuinely hard to remember them all, but two recent faves are The Spellman Files and Curse of the Spellmans, by Lisa Lutz. They are outrageously funny. I can’t wait until the latest installment comes out!

Joyce Meyers
Life Without Strife: How God Can Heal and Restore Troubled Relationships
TWO THUMB DOWN….
I recently read Conflict living from Joyce Meyers and it lead me to her other aforementioned book… Had I known b4 hand that the books were basically the same exact books I would NOT have spent my money on buying the later…..Conflict free living was a great book (TWO THUMBS UP!) and I gained alot of insight about strife and what it does to our lives…that is why I bought the other book thinking I would gain more insight into the subject, but it was the same quotes and stories, it was very disappointing!
Cheers!
